Facebook May Be A Phenomenon, But Google Still Has Far Greater Traffic
With the New Year cheer comes the new year pie: humble pie. We were dead wrong about Facebook overtaking Google, in terms of overall, regular traffic. Our post on February 4, 2010, which you can READ HERE, was bold, considering Google has pretty much had a lock on traffic for years. They continue to innovate in ways that keep traffic coming, too; although, their most recent effort to buy Groupon.com did not fare so well.
Nonetheless, it appeared as though we may have been correct in our initial prediction, although the timing was not on target. In mid-March, Facebook did, in fact, temporarily overtake Google in the traffic realm. We were ecstatic that we had been bold enough to predict it, and it had come true.
The March 19, 2010 post can be VIEWED HERE. In it, we detailed the statistical dead-heat between Google and Facebook, for traffic.
Closing out 2010, however, Google is firmly in the lead, with nearly 40,000,000 monthly visitors more, each month, that Facebook. Don’t get me wrong, Facebook’s 127,000,000 monthly visitor count, as tabulated by Quantcast, is quite respectable. I would love to have it, but Google surged ahead to capture 165,000,000 monthly visitors, average, in the six months ending 2010.
It was a bold prediction; it didn’t work out.
